Looking at Zion

A Jewish Perspective on Israel-Diaspora relationship: 235 members of Jewish communities around the globe answered a questionnaire, which asked them to articulate their thoughts and feelings towards Israel

Mark Bloome, Seattle

“The orthodox habituation of the settlements can be significantly related to the decline in the world perception of the Jewish state. God gave us what he gave us, but the Orthodox did not accept the gift. Not enough they said and took actions. The results speak for themselves.”

The Interviewee – Mark Bloome, full time advocate for the people of Israel. I’m a human rights and peace worker, but grounded in reality. I am an old jew. Been successful in many fields of endeavor. The hardest work I have ever taken on is stopping the likely pathway towards nuclear war. I live in Seattle, Washington.

In your opinion, what importance, if any, does the existence of a Jewish state have to you personally and to Jewish people in general?

“I work full time and give 50% of my income to support the People of Israel of which the Nation of Israel is one component.”

Do you feel committed in some way to defend the future existence of Israel?

“If a nuclear armed state goes down it will likely take protective actions in the forms of nuclear bombs against those causing that downfall. Such an event will devastate the Middle East and likely to spread. So the survival of Israel, is the survival of most of human kind and most life.”

Do you affiliate yourself with a specific denomination in Judaism? What is your view regarding the dominance of the Orthodox denomination in Israel religious establishment?

“The orthodox habituation of the settlements can be significantly related to the decline in the world perception of the Jewish state. God gave us what he gave us, but the Orthodox did not accept the gift. Not enough they said and took actions. The results speak for themselves. But make no mistake that Muslims of the Middle East would still want Israel’s destruction, but the loss of public opinion will assist in the destruction.”

Do you feel morally responsible for Israel’s actions (such as its management of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

“No.”

In your opinion, what is the main thing Israelis fail to understand about the reality of being Jewish outside of Israel?

“Almost everything. I went to the government to get their input on stopping antisemitism on USA campuses. I was discouraged from doing so. The current anti-bds efforts by the Israeli government, are stupid, and inadequate. These precious resource are going to fight BDS in Europe where the fight is impossible to win.”

How would you describe Israel’s policy (formally and in practice) regarding its relationship with the Diaspora?

“Very weak but getting better, but getting better too slow.”

In your opinion, does Israel have an obligation to defend and help Jewish communities in need?

“Yes, help the USA community fight BDS. We need more help where the battle can be won.”

Have you ever been to Israel? if you have, can you summarize your impression from the Israeli reality?

“Yes. Very Jewish, much like Southern California, would not want to live there.”
