In your opinion, what importance, if any, does the existence of a Jewish state have to you personally and to Jewish people in general?

“It is important that a Jewish state exist for the world and for Jewish people.”

Do you feel committed in some way to defend the future existence of Israel?

“Yes, because I feel concerned with the existence and security of the people living in Israel.”

Do you affiliate yourself with a specific denomination in Judaism? What is your view regarding the dominance of the Orthodox denomination in Israel religious establishment?

“My link with Judaism is historical and cultural but not religious. I would not judge the Orthodox dominance in Israel because I do not live there, but I would be concerned if this prevalence would force non-religious Jews to change their way of life.”

Do you feel morally responsible for Israel’s actions (such as its management of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

“I do not feel I have the right to give my opinion as I do not live in this country, however, I have to establish certain facts when facing people who constantly place Israel as the main Evil in the region…”

In your opinion, what is the main thing Israelis fail to understand about the reality of being Jewish outside of Israel?

“Israelis maybe sometimes underestimate the centuries-old bound that attach the Jews to the countries they live in- despite the difficulties that they might face now and then in these countries.”

How would you describe Israel’s policy (formally and in practice) regarding its relationship with the Diaspora?

“It is perhaps legitimate for Israel to wish that the Diaspora would join the country, yet the policy is often too harsh and underestimates the difficulties it would be to leave one country when one has its stability and social life.”

In your opinion, does Israel have an obligation to defend and help Jewish communities in need?

“Israel has always tried to do so, but should now be more focus to help their citizens first to have a better life.”

Have you ever been to Israel? if you have, can you summarize your impression from the Israeli reality?

“Yes, I’ve been in Israel several time for work and leisure. It is a beautiful country, of which I am proud, however, I do not see myself living there.”

Can you tell us a bit about the Jewish community in your hometown? Is it organized? Are there any community activities?

“In my hometown, the Jewish community is very diverse, from Orthodox to liberal as well as several unaffiliated Jews like me.”
