B, Los Angeles

“I think it’s problematic that non Orthodox Jews are not given the rights and respect they deserve under the law.”

The Interviewee – B,  Los Angeles, requested to remain anonymous.

In your opinion, what importance, if any, does the existence of a Jewish state have to you personally and to Jewish people in general?

“Extremely important.”

Do you feel committed in some way to defend the future existence of Israel?

“Absolutely.”

Do you affiliate yourself with a specific denomination in Judaism? What is your view regarding the dominance of the Orthodox denomination in Israel religious establishment?

“Conservative. I think its problematic that non Orthodox Jews are not given the rights and respect they deserve under the law. We are a small people as it is we don’t need to have more exclusivity and fractures among ourselves.

Do you feel morally responsible for Israel’s actions (such as its management of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict)?

“Somewhat. I think the management of the conflict has been poor and not handled well- both in terms of practicality, and in terms of raising the Palestinian people, and in terms of PR for what is happening and how we are trying our best.

In your opinion, what is the main thing Israelis fail to understand about the reality of being Jewish outside of Israel?

“Jews everywhere represent each other and its important to do so well. Not everywhere is safe for Jews.”

How would you describe Israel’s policy (formally and in practice) regarding its relationship with the Diaspora?

“It’s good.

In your opinion, does Israel have an obligation to defend and help Jewish communities in need?

“100%. Its part of the reason why the country exists in my opinion.”

Have you ever been to Israel?

“I love Israel, it feels like home. I’ve been there over 20 times and want to see it be successful.

Can you tell us a bit about the Jewish community in your hometown?

“I live in Los Angeles so there is a huge and diverse Jewish community.

If you could ask the Israeli readers of this project a question, what would it be?

“Consider yourself an ambassador of Jews everywhere and act with integrity because it matters.”
